University of Agriculture in Krakow is a state higher education institution. It emerged from the Jagiellonian University – the oldest one in Poland and has been operating as an independent scientific and higher education institution since 1953.
The University provides education for 13 thousands of students at seven faculties and Interfaculty Biotechnology Studies in agricultural, forestry, biological, economic and engineering sciences. The University offers both full time programmes and extramural studies on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd level, as well as postgraduate studies for Master diploma holders. The programmes are provided in 16 main fields with 29 specializations in all areas of agriculture and food economy.
University of Agriculture employs over 740 academic teachers. The scope of research conducted at the institution comprises among others: biotechnology, renewable sources of energy, environmental protection and agriculture development in mountain areas, population biology and ecology of forest trees, biodiversity and sustainable rural development.
The University cooperates with about 100 research centers all over the world and since 1990 has been actively involved in educational and research projects financed from the European Union programmes. It organizes student and teacher mobility within LLP-Erasmus Programme and on the basis of bilateral agreements. It acquires funds and realizes investment, research and educational projects co-financed from Structural Funds which also support entrepreneurial attitudes among graduate and doctoral students.
