AGH-UST is an important centre where innovative technologies are developed and transferred to industry. Centre for Transfer of Technologies (CTT) has been established to ensure effective cooperation between
AGH-UST and industrial units. The aim of CTT is to promote, protect and sell the University’s research offer to entrepreneurs and
investors. To help our students and employees develop private enterprise we have founded Centre for Entrepreneurship. It provides support for students, university staff and graduates who want to set up their own business.
Research and development are the most important university tasks. Research which is carried out the university determines the scientific level of the unit, prospects for staff development, and is the basis for educating students at a high level, consistent with the current needs and requirements. Within the AGH-UST structure there are the University Computer Centre and the CYFRONET Academic Computer Centre with its powerful supercomputers (classified internationally on the list of a few hundred fastest computers in the world.) In the times of global aiming at information society, the fact that AGH-UST hosts one of the largest and most important nodes of the Polish part of the Internet is an important asset. The University has very modern equipment, which enables carrying out research at international level. An example of it can be the most powerful in this part of Europe microscopes for testing structures of metals, the so-called stiff testing machine, which allows to test precisely the processes of rock cracking and crushing, electron microscopes, devices for complex testing of solids and particularly their surfaces, mass spectrometers, various devices for carrying out environmental testing procedures, etc.
As a university of applicational character AGH-UST committed to close collaboration with private and public sector institutions. We have signed agreements with over 120 industrial plants, including some major industrial corporations. The subject of these agreements is cooperation in the areas of science, research and education, and the purpose is to make maximum use of the mutual potential of partners. We want to take an active part in the advancement of our country and at the same time create new directions of our own activity.
International cooperation plays a significant role in scientific research. We have over 120 agreements with partners in Europe, America and Asia concerning diverse joint enterprises in the areas of education and scientific research. Every year we conduct about 200 collaborative research projects.
We consider scientific research and international cooperation to be one of the most important elements of educational and scientific development of the University. It helps us to maintain and improve our position on the international arena.
